By: Bayero Ade

There are strong indication that the social media may be abuzz again with mixed reactions as a human rights Activist and Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore has been invited by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

Recall that Sowore had recently featured in videos where he was seen conversing with policemen who had flagged down his car.

However, Sowore was invited in a letter obtained by Starnews NG dated January 23, 2025 and signed by CP Ibitoye Rufus Olajide for Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department.

The letter reads, “this office is investiga ting case of Resisting and Obstructing Public Officers, Disobedience to Lawful Order, Acts Intended to Cause Grievous
Harm or Prevent Arrest, Compelling Action by Intimidation, Reckless &
Negligent Acts, Refusal to Assist Public Servant and Cyberstalking in which
your name featured, prominently.

“You are requested to report for an interview with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) through the undersigned, at
SPO’s Room 212, 2nd Floor, Force Intelligence Department (FID) Complex, Shehu Shagari way, opposite Force Headquarters Area 11, Garki, Abuja on Monday, 27ch
January, 2025 at 1Oam.

“This request is made pursuant to the investigative powers conferred on the Police by the combined effect of Sections 214 and the Constitution of Federal
Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) and Section 4 of the Police Act and
Regulations, 2020.

“Be informed that you are at liberty to come along with your attorney, please.

Before his formal appearance on Monday, netizens have reacted to the letter on Sowore’s Facebook account. Although Sowore posted the letter on the social media a few hours ago.

Reacting, a Facebook user, Hungbeme Moses said, “American police don’t block Airport road to extort motorists and citizens.

American citizen insult their police when they misbehave and act illegally. You ignorant people are the ones that refuse to know your right.

How many criminal politicians have police invited?

Nigerians supporting police against Sowore will face police brutality, irresponsible actions of the police one-day and you will ever regret that you supported them and insult Omoyele Sowore

Clear road for him, hero of our time Omoyele Sowore.

Also another user, Akintunde Temitope wrote: “We have no police in Nigeria. What we have are bunch of extortionists parading as policemen.

In which other country police stay on the road, collecting money illegally from citizens ?

Do a survey and you will see that Nigerian police are causing more harm than good. It is very difficult to differentiate a Nigerian policeman from an armed robber.

I will end with the words of Dele Farotimi; Nigeria police is deliberately made criminal so as to be complicit in the serial crime of those who rule us.”

However, Funsho Kingsley said “All these are tactics by the State to make every Nigerian surrender to intimidation, oppression, looting, bad Governance, mis Governance etc
The funny aspect is that the kids of the top brass of these police officers are all scattered in the Western world schooling and working with looted funds from bribes and cut from politicians because they know the system has failed. They are just getting their share from the fallen Elephant (Nigeria ).
Same Nigeria police under which our territories fell to Bandits and terrorist. Is there any local Goverment under the control of Bandits that dint have a Divisionalnpokice covering it before now?How did they fail to carry out their jobs till their areas of responsibility fell to the hands of terrorist gradually?it hall happened because they were focused on political policing
