Troops from Operation HADIN KAI operating in the North East region achieved a successful interception and elimination of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) militants who were attempting to infiltrate Nigerian territory from the Cameroon border.
The swift action was taken after receiving credible information about an ambush set up by the terrorists along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, as confirmed by the Military High Command.
During a press briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Maj.-Gen. ES Buba, the newly appointed Director of Defence Media Operations, announced that apart from the elimination of the terrorists, 10 of them were captured alive.
Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim, who represented Buba at the briefing, informed the media that a significant amount of weapons, equipment, and supplies, including bags of flour and detergent, were seized from the terrorists. Additionally, those who collaborated with the militants were apprehended.
The director stated, “The troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the Northeast region of the country are relentlessly conducting operations against terrorists, as well as targeting their logistics suppliers and collaborators.”
“On June 22, 2023, our troops laid an ambush along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State based on intelligence indicating the movement of terrorists from Cameroon into Nigeria. They engaged with the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of 5 Boko Haram Terrorists/Islamic State of West Africa Province militants during a fierce firefight. We also recovered 1 bag each of flour and detergent,” explained the senior military official.
Furthermore, Maj.-Gen. Buba revealed that a significant number of terrorists had voluntarily surrendered to the troops stationed across different locations in the joint area of operations. A total of 967 terrorists surrendered, comprising 82 adult males, 354 adult females, and 531 children, according to reliable sources.
