Nigerian Actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, Known as Baba Ijesha, Released from Prison

Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison. His release occurred on Friday, November 14, 2025, following a lengthy period of over three years in custody related to allegations of sexual assault.

Actor Yomi Fabiyi announced Baba Ijesha’s release in a post on his Facebook account, noting that the actor was freed after being cleared by the Appeal Court. Fabiyi expressed his relief, stating, “You are now officially free and out. Baba Ijesha is not just back but better.”

In his post, Starnews NG reports that Fabiyi commented on the legal proceedings, emphasising the importance of due process and expressing concern over the handling of the case. He stated, “I am happy you were cleared by the Appeal Court. We live in a world where sentiments can sometimes overshadow the rule of law.”

Fabiyi raised several points regarding the circumstances surrounding the case, including concerns about the evidence presented and the actions of individuals involved. He emphasised that discussions around sensitive topics such as child abuse should be approached with care and responsibility.

As a Human Rights Organization, we maintain a strong stance against any form of sexual abuse, particularly involving minors. We advocate for justice and the protection of fundamental human rights for all individuals, regardless of the situation.

Baba Ijesha was previously sentenced to 16 years in prison on July 14, 2022, by the Lagos State High Court for the sexual assault of a minor, Starnews reports.
