The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service on Monday, announced the repatriation of 22 illegal immigrants from Benin who had been causing disturbances in various local government areas of the state.
Comptroller Grace Adeoye, head of the Ogun State NIS command, discussed this development during a visit to the Ogun House of Assembly in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. She emphasized the need for collaboration with the state government to support their efforts in addressing illegal immigration, noting that similar cases have also been addressed as part of their broader strategy.
In response, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide assured that the Assembly would continue to work with the Immigration Service to improve its operations within the state. He acknowledged the significant role of the Immigration Service in maintaining peace and security, especially in border areas.
Elemide also praised the recent reforms in Nigerian passport issuance, highlighting improvements in the process and overall service delivery.
Wahab Haruna, Fola Salami, and Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff also commended the Command’s achievements and advocated for more proactive measures to address illegal activities by foreigners, aiming to enhance security in border communities.
