NCDC Team Arrives Ondo To Fight Lassa Fever

A team from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has arrived in Ondo State to tackle the growing Lassa fever outbreak.

The team, led by Dr. Olubunmi Olopha, met with state officials to outline their support plans. According to Olopha, out of nearly 200 suspected cases reported, fewer than 90 have been confirmed.

She urged healthcare providers to refer suspected cases to appropriate facilities promptly to reduce fatalities.

The Head of Civil Service in Ondo, Bayo Philip, reiterated the state government’s commitment to combating the disease, Channels TV reports.

He urged health, agriculture, and environmental ministries to act quickly in preventing the annual resurgence of Lassa fever.

Philip also encouraged private health practitioners, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to collaborate with the government in promoting hygienic practices, especially in food handling, to curb the spread of the disease.
