Naval officers allegedly kill Police Inspector

Tragedy struck in Okokomaiko, Lagos State, as a Police Inspector was allegedly killed by individuals suspected to be naval officers.

The incident occurred during a routine patrol along Igbo-Elerin in Ojo Local Government Area, where the Inspector and four colleagues were on duty.

According to reports, the confrontation began when the policemen stopped a commercial motorcycle rider and his passenger for a traffic violation.

The rider, who was in civilian attire, identified himself as a naval personnel and resisted arrest alongside his passenger.

Eyewitnesses described a verbal dispute escalating into a physical altercation between the policemen and the alleged naval personnel.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed receiving a distress call reporting that policemen were trying to apprehend a motorcycle rider violating traffic rules.

The situation intensified when two men in civilian clothing, claiming naval affiliation, confronted the officers.

Hundeyin stated that uniformed naval officers joined the altercation, during which one Inspector collapsed and later succumbed to his injuries despite rescue efforts.

The deceased Inspector’s body has been transported to the Idi-Araba Mortuary for autopsy, while investigations into the incident are currently underway.
