The National Union of Electricity Employees has announced that the national grid has been restored.
This development comes after the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress suspended their strike action.
According to The PUNCH, the NUEE National President, Adebiyi Adeyeye confirmed that the grid is back online, following the suspension of the strike.
He clarified that the union had only withdrawn its members in compliance with the labour directive and denied allegations that union leaders attacked Transmission Company of Nigeria workers.
He said, “The strike has been suspended, which means the grid has come back to normal. It is on already,” Adeyeye told our correspondent over the phone.
The strike, which began on Monday, was called in response to the Federal Government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage and reduce the Band A tariff.
The nationwide strike led to a shutdown of the national grid, leaving the country in darkness.
The labour unions have suspended the strike for five days to allow for further negotiations with the government on a minimum wage higher than N60,000.
