Natasha asks Senate President’s wife to stay out of harassment allegations

Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has advised Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to refrain from intervening in the sexual harassment and intimidation allegations against her husband.

The dispute between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio began when she refused to sit in a designated seat during a Senate session, citing Order 10 of the Senate Standing Rules.

Promptnews reports that the situation escalated further when she appeared on Arise News on Friday, accusing Akpabio of blocking her motions, intimidating her, and maligning her after she allegedly rejected his advances.

In response, Mrs. Akpabio held a press conference in Abuja, dismissing the allegations and describing them as baseless.

She insisted that both families had maintained a cordial relationship long before Akpoti-Uduaghan’s marriage.

However, in a letter dated March 1, 2025, sent through her lawyer, Victor Giwa, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Mrs. Akpabio to stay out of the matter, emphasizing that the accusations were directed at the Senate President and that he should be left to defend himself.

The letter, titled “Stay Away from Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment and Intimidation Allegation Against Sen. President Godswill Akpabio; To Safeguard Your Sanity and That of Your Family,” stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan had endured harassment for a long time but was now compelled to speak up.

It read in part, “Our client does not wish to involve you in the unfortunate situation concerning her allegations against the Senate President and requests that you restrain yourself from interfering. She has tolerated harassment from the Senate President but has now been forced to expose the intimidation and mistreatment she has endured in the Senate.”

The letter further stressed that the allegations were personal to Akpabio and that he was capable of defending himself.

“Our client has strong evidence to support her claims. We advise that you allow the Senate President to handle his defense to protect your peace of mind and that of your family.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to defending Nigerian women and upholding family values, insisting that she would continue to stand for justice.
