Motorcyclist Killed, Passenger Injured in Akoko Road Attack

A motorcyclist was killed by suspected kidnappers on Sunday along the Ikun-Oba road in the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The passenger riding with him at the time of the attack sustained serious injuries.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that a motorist who was also ambushed during the incident managed to escape, though his vehicle was hit by several bullets.

Rev. Canon Foluso Ogunsuyi, a local resident, expressed concern over the resurgence of kidnappers in the area despite ongoing security patrols. “It is surprising to see kidnappers back on this road, especially with the security presence in the area,” Ogunsuyi said.

He also called on the government to urgently repair the Ikun-Oba road, pointing out that the poor condition of the road makes it easier for criminals to operate.

Confirming the attack, Princess Deborah Jacob, Regent of Oba-Akoko, urged the government to bolster security on the road, particularly as the festive season approaches.

Efforts to reach the Oba-Akoko Divisional Police Officer for comment were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
