More bodies recovered after boat capsized in Sokoto

Efforts to recover victims of the boat accident in River Dundaye, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, continued with more lifeless bodies being retrieved.

The tragedy occurred on Sunday when a wooden boat capsized due to violent waves, just meters away from its destination.

The boat, which overturned after the captain lost control, spilled its passengers into the fast-moving water.

The most recent discovery was the body of a female teenager, found 20 kilometers from the accident site in the Wamakko area, bringing the total number of recovered bodies to 10 as of Tuesday.

Reports indicate that 20 passengers were rescued shortly after the incident, thanks to the collaborative efforts of local villagers and officials from the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,..

The survivors were part of a group that included teenagers and elderly villagers, who had been hired for manual labor on farms along the riverbanks.

The search for more victims continues as authorities and community members work tirelessly to recover those still missing from the ill-fated journey.
