Man Spends $5, 000 Converting His Pick Up Truck into a Tiny Mobile Home

A traveler has revealed how it cost him just $5,000 to convert his pickup truck into a tiny home – complete with a kitchen, shower and bedroom.

Love Lance, from Colorado, recently opened up his home on wheels for the popular YouTube series Tiny Home Tours.

He explains to viewers that he transformed his Chevrolet Silverado from scratch, with the build out taking 20 days.

Videos posted to his Instagram account, @wandering_healer7, show him building a timber frame before he installs it to the back of his vehicle, inserts some windows and gives it a paint job.

Explaining what inspired him to craft a tiny home, he says: ‘I just got tired of kinda running the rat race, kind of just working a 9-to-5 job, just to pay rent, just to come home and watch TV, and do it all over again.

‘It was killing my soul in a way… I started doing a bit of research into van life and you know, I just kinda fell in love with the idea. I decided it was time.

‘There was a lot of fear that held me back originally, but once I broke through that fear, I felt like I was blessed for it.

‘Things became much easier. I no longer had the fear and I ended up selling everything I owned.

‘I put it all up on Facebook Marketplace and built this camper in 20 days, and hit the road.

‘I wanted to be able to travel and meet new people and see new places, and this allows me to do all of that.’

Luckily Lance is a carpenter by trade, so the DIY project wasn’t too daunting.

In his video tour, he shows how there is a full kitchen complete with a two-burner propane stove, a portable fridge-freezer combo, a small drawer to store utensils, shelves, a deep sink and a 30-gallon water tank.

The sink features a stretchable pull-out faucet that can be fed out of the window to double up as an outdoor shower.

Another smart aspect of the kitchen is a solid wooden board that folds up in front of the sink.

This, Lance says, can be used as a chopping board or as a dining table if he sits on the bed.

Speaking of the bed, it is located at the back of the tiny home and the handyman made the mattress himself using a chunk of memory foam.

‘This is the most comfortable bed that I have ever slept on in my entire life,’ he says.

Solar panels covering the top of the moveable abode means that Lance can power up as he goes.

There are lights in the ceiling of the home and windows by the kitchen sink, and storage area allows for plenty of natural light.

So that it doesn’t get too smoky while he cooks, Lance also installed a ceiling vent, which allows for improved air flow.

Other areas he showcases during the tour include a small space by the bed which he uses as a micro art studio for painting, and his small closet space which consists of a shelving unit.

So that everything stays in place while he drives cross country, Lance says he uses lots of bungy cords.

To earn money on the road, Lance does vehicle build and repair jobs, with his services advertised on the side of his truck.

Offering advice to offers who might be thinking about a pickup truck conversion, Lance concludes: ‘Maybe take some time just to plan your layout a little bit because everything has got to have its place.

‘You know, you’re living in 75 square feet of room that is going to be your home. You wanna make sure everything fits well… it’s secured properly.

‘It does come with trials and errors, trials and tribulations, but there’s divinity in the struggle. It’s been really, really good.’
