An unidentified individual has been electrocuted while attempting to steal wires from a transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.
Reports from PUNCH Online indicate that the community has been dealing with ongoing incidents of electrical wire theft and transformer damage.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. She explained that the man had climbed into the transformer enclosure and was electrocuted while trying to cut the wires.
The chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, reported the event to the police. He stated that the community had been facing repeated transformer vandalism. On Friday, around 7:00 a.m., Ajagbe was alerted to check on the transformer and went to the site with other local leaders. Upon their arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the unknown individual, who had been electrocuted in the process of tampering with the transformer.
The statement said, “When they reached the transformer house, they found the dead body of an unidentified man, who had been electrocuted while attempting to cut the wires.”
Following the report, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to gather evidence, take photos, and conduct an investigation. The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was notified, and the body was transported to the General Hospital Ifo for an autopsy and further examination.
