The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat valued at N200,000 to celebrate his daughter’s naming ceremony.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Waris was apprehended on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of the state alongside his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects had invaded a farm on December 25, 2024, while the owner, identified as Mark, was away grazing his cattle. On his return, Mark discovered that one of his goats was missing and raised an alarm.

During a community search, witnesses reported seeing Waris and Yusuf transporting the goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town. Acting on this information, police detectives tracked and arrested the suspects.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing and slaughtering the goat,” Odutola said. “They admitted that the meat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Waris’s daughter, held on December 27, 2024, in Olodo.”

Both suspects are currently in custody at the Divisional Crime Branch as further investigations continue.
