Man arrested for allegedly attempting to kidnap a baby in Okitipupa

The police in Okitipupa, Ondo State, have arrested a suspect who allegedly attempted to kidnap a baby in Omowa street of Okitipupa Local Government Area in Ondo State on Monday, Starnews can report.

CSP Alabi Abiodun, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okitipupa Local Government Police Station, on Wednesday, confirmed the incident to Starnews’ correspondent on phone.

Starnews gathered that the suspect, known as Nsen Godwin, allegedly kidnapped the baby while playing outside the baby’s house with his elder brother.

An Eye witness who spoke under the condition of anonymity alleged that the suspect carried the baby through various shortcut to Onaopemipo street in Okitipupa where he was accosted and questioned by some residents after the shout by the baby’s elder brother caught the attention of residents and passersby.

Starnews reports that the suspect, Nsen, started acting like someone who was mentally retarded the moment he was caught by the residents in the area. He also declined to speak to anyone until he was taken away by the Police.

The man was arrested and taken to Okitipupa divisional police station.

According to the DPO in Okitipupa, the case has been transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad at Police headquarters in Akure, Ondo State capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ondo State Police Command, Mr Femi Joseph, said the suspect was alleged to have stolen two babies. He promised to provide details of the incident to Starnews NG (Starnews.com.ng) when contacted on phone by our correspondent. Circumstances and full details surrounding the incident were not yet received from him as at the time of this report.
