Male teacher remanded for kissing four boys

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has ordered Josiah Alkali, a 30-year-old teacher, to be remanded in a correctional facility over allegations of kissing and engaging in inappropriate behavior with four boys.

Alkali faces multiple defilement charges filed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The accusations were reported to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kafanchan on July 3. It is alleged that between February and July 2024, Alkali enticed boys aged 13 to 15 into his room in Takau, where he reportedly kissed them and engaged in inappropriate conduct.

NSCDC prosecutor Marcus Audu disclosed that Alkali allegedly threatened the boys to keep quiet about the incidents.

During investigations, Alkali purportedly admitted to the allegations. However, Chief Magistrate Samson Kwasu declined to take Alkali’s plea due to jurisdictional limitations. Kwasu instructed the prosecutor to submit duplicate case files to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for further legal guidance.

The case has been adjourned until July 25 for further proceedings.
