Makinde Clarifies NEC’s Request for Withdrawal of Tax Reform Bill

By Our Correspondent

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, provided an explanation for the National Economic Council’s (NEC) decision to ask for the withdrawal of the Tax Reform Bill.

He revealed that the bill had been sent directly to the National Assembly without first being reviewed by NEC, which is standard procedure for such legislation.

Makinde emphasized that NEC members needed to review the bill’s content before giving their approval, but it had already been forwarded to the National Assembly.

In an online conversation with residents of Oyo State, tagged #AskSeyiMakinde, the governor clarified that the council’s decision was a unanimous one.

He pointed out that although the bill contained positive proposals, there was a need for broader consultations with stakeholders to ensure the reform is properly aligned with the interests of all parties involved.

Makinde also mentioned that reforms are necessary, as they bring about change, but such reforms should be supported by widespread consultation to be effective.
