A Nigerian academic, Dr. Nsikak Akpan, has successfully completed a marathon lecture lasting 155 hours, 14 minutes, and 10 seconds, surpassing the previous world record for the longest lecture.
Dr. Akpan’s lecture spanned seven days, from Monday, September 23 to Sunday, September 29, 2024.
The current Guinness World Record for the longest lecture, held by Indian professor Arvin Mishra, stands at 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds, set in 2014.
Once verified, Dr. Akpan will become the first Nigerian lecturer to achieve this remarkable feat.
Dr. Akpan, who is also the Provost of Foreign Links College in Moro, Ife-North Local Government Area, Osun State, delivered his lecture on the topic “Relationship Between Man’s Environment and Health” to a diverse audience of students throughout the marathon session.
Despite facing some health challenges during the attempt, Dr. Akpan remained determined and exceeded his initial target of 150 hours.
Upon completion of the task, students in attendance erupted in jubilant applause, celebrating their lecturer’s extraordinary achievement.
If verified, Dr. Akpan’s achievement will mark a new chapter in Nigeria’s educational records.
