Lawyer Expresses Disappointment As Court Fails To Sit In Fundamental Rights Suit Against Ondo Amotekun

The Ondo State High Court failed to convene today, halting the proceedings in urgent Fundamental Rights Enforcement suits filed on behalf of three operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun).

The officers involved—Abu Taiwo, Akinsipe Victor, and Ekujimi Julius—are contesting their designation as “wanted” by Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps.

The suits—ABU TAIWO v. Chief Adetunji Adeleye & Ondo State Security Network Agency (Suit No: HCAK/478/CIV/2025), AKINSIPE VICTOR v. Chief Adetunji Adeleye & Ondo State Security Network Agency (Suit No: HCAK/475/CIV/2025), and EKUJIMI JULIUS v. Chief Adetunji Adeleye & Ondo State Security Network Agency (Suit No: HCAK/479/CIV/2025)—were initiated following an alleged unlawful declaration made on 27th October 2025, which according to Tope Temokun was issued without formal charges or judicial orders.

Temokun, the counsel representing the applicants, issued a statement today expressing his disappointment following the court’s failure to sit. He stated, “Despite the acknowledged urgency of the suits and the fixing of today’s date, the Court did not sit. The consequence of this development is that the unlawful declaration of the applicants as ‘wanted’ continues to subsist, compelling them to remain in hiding.”

Starnews NG reports that Temokun had previously written to the Honourable Chief Judge of Ondo State on 8th December 2025, highlighting the violation of the applicants’ constitutional rights and requesting an expedited hearing. Following today’s developments, he indicated that he would be sending a new letter to the Chief Judge, urging the immediate assignment of a new hearing date, while expressing confidence in the judiciary.

“I remain confident in the judiciary and its ultimate intervention to put this matter to rest,” Temokun added. “All lawful steps will continue to be taken to secure the liberty of the affected officers and to halt what has become a disturbing example of executive rascality”, he stated.
