A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operative has had his leg amputated following a crash involving a speeding truck in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos.
According to LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, the officer was en route to his afternoon duty when the truck struck him. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trailer, with registration number KTG 33 ZZ from Bauchi State, was traveling from Agidingbi by Oba Ogunji Road toward Omole Junction.
According to Peoples Gazette, the driver, operating at a dangerously high speed, lost control, resulting in a severe collision.
The impact of the crash caused extensive injuries to the officer, including a broken right leg and hand. Following an emergency evaluation at the Surgical Emergency Centre of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), doctors determined that the injuries were so severe that amputation of his right leg was necessary.
The truck driver was later apprehended by security personnel while attempting to flee the scene.
