The Lagos State Task Force has dismissed two of its personnel, Fatai Yusuf (42) and Hammed Garuba (38), for stealing phones during a recent operation.
In a statement released on Friday, the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, confirmed their termination.
Yusuf and Garuba were caught on CCTV stealing phones during a raid at a hotel in Gowon Estate, a known hotspot for drug users and traffickers. The raid, which led to multiple arrests, was marred by the officers’ misconduct.
Following a thorough investigation by the agency’s disciplinary committee, the two officers were found guilty of theft and have been dismissed from their posts. They will also face legal prosecution.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Task Force, condemned the actions of the dismissed officers, stressing that the agency prioritizes integrity and accountability. He warned that any future violations of ethical standards would result in severe consequences.
Gbadeyan further emphasized that the Task Force operates on principles of discipline, justice, and fairness, ensuring that any behavior that undermines public trust or the agency’s credibility will be swiftly addressed.
Additionally, Gbadeyan noted that the suspects arrested during the raid had been arraigned. A group of 53 drug offenders from previous operations have been remanded at the Badagry Correctional Centre, while 43 more individuals were arrested during the Gowon Estate raid. The operation also resulted in the demolition of drug hideouts and illegal structures.
These efforts, Gbadeyan stated, reflect the Task Force’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety in alignment with the Lagos State THEMES Plus agenda.
