Lagos Speaker Denies Claims of Extravagant Assembly Spending

By Our Correspondent

Allegations surrounding a supposed N17 billion expenditure for constructing the Lagos State House of Assembly gate have been dismissed by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

He described the claims as unfounded and linked them to political maneuvering by individuals eyeing key positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Obasa explained that the timeline and financial capacity of the Assembly make such spending implausible.

He also refuted another claim that N200 million was spent on a staff thanksgiving service, pointing out that the event did not even occur.

Additionally, he addressed rumors about his presence at the National Assembly during the confirmation of the EFCC chairman, challenging those making the claims to verify the information using available records.

Obasa assured the public that the Lagos Assembly prioritizes responsible governance and dismissed the allegations as baseless distractions.
