Lagos Explosion: Erelu Oodua commiserates with bereaved families

  • Asks Government to immortalise Revd. Sis. Henrietta Alokha
  • Speaks on Coronavirus, asks Buhari to address the Nation

The traditional title holder of Erelu-Oodua of Aye Kingdom, Mabel Tinuade Onaneye, on Tuesday, commiserated with the victims of the last Sunday explosion that claimed scores of lives at Abule Odo and Ado Soba towns in Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.

She also called for the immortalisation of Revd. Sis. Henrietta Alokha, Principal of Bethlehem High School Abule Ado, Lagos, who was able to rescue all the 300 children under her care from the raging fire but couldn’t make it alive.

She also said that the family of the deceased should be compensated by the government

Starnews NG reports that Revd. Sis. Henrietta Alokha, couldn’t survive the fire incident after she saved the lives of over 300 children of Bethlehem High School Abule Ado, Lagos State.

The explosion was said to have been caused by the leakages along the gas pipeline in the area according to report.

In a statement she personally signed and made available to the press via her media office in Texas, United States, Erelu expressed shock over the negligence of the Lagos State Government on the incident.

She berated the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his poor attitude towards the affected people of the area, saying as at Monday morning, the Governor has not visited the area to assess the level of damages and to also sympathize with the victims.

Meanwhile, Premium Times has reported that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has advised residents in the area where an explosion occurred to make safety their priority, urging them to maintain a safe distance from the scene of the explosion and fire as the site is still live.

The governor also instructed the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) to immediately release personal safety equipment such as face and nose protection masks to be distributed to first responders, residents of the affected area and all safety workers at the ground zero.

The safety equipment had been delivered, the governor’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile, said in a statement.

But Erelu while commending the efforts of various volunteer groups and rescue teams, urged the Lagos State Government to investigate the proximate cause of the explosion and get to the root of the matter, as according to her, it might be a terrorist attack and not a gas explosion in the real sense.

She also slammed President Muhammadu Buhari with the way and manner his administration is handling the global menace called COVID 19.

She said President Buhari has not addressed the nation despite the confirmed cases of the dreaded #Corona Virus in Nigeria.

“Buhari remains the only president who has not addressed the nation on the measures put in place to stop the spread of the diseases in Nigeria. This is not too good for our Nation. President Buhari must be proactive”, she said.

She however stressed the need for both the government and good people of Nigeria to work hand-in-hand most especially in the area of dissemination of important information that may be useful to mitigate the spread of the disease.
