The national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has criticized the party’s federal lawmakers for not making any financial contributions since they were elected in 2023.
Abure voiced his concern during a town hall meeting organized by the party’s Lagos chapter, where he expressed frustration over the situation.
According to Abure, despite the LP having six senators, about 30 House of Representatives members, and many state assembly members, none of them have contributed financially to the party’s operations at the national level.
He noted that the responsibility of keeping the party running has remained solely with the leadership.
Abure also warned against attempts by some party leaders to create separate structures within the party, stressing that the LP functions as a single, unified entity.
He pointed out that the lawmakers’ lack of financial support was unusual, especially when compared to how elected members in other parties contribute to sustaining their platforms.
Abure further accused some lawmakers of seeking control over their constituencies without showing real commitment to the party.
He called on members of the ‘Obidient’ movement to formally register with the Labour Party to strengthen its structure and operations.
