An upcoming artiste who identified himself as King of Madness, Anthony Uchechukwu, has been released by the Lagos State Police Command.
The PUNCH had reported that the artiste was paraded as a criminal suspect at the command headquarters on Wednesday.
Speaking on his arrest, Uchechukwu said that policemen stopped the Uber ride he had boarded to a show at Lekki around 10.45pm on Wednesday.
“They told me that I was being taken to meet a DPO. I just saw myself here this morning. I still don’t understand what’s happening,” he said.
However, in a follow-up reaction on the paraded suspects on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the artiste was released after a proper background proved that he has a means of livelihood.
“The King of Madness has been released; he was released after a proper background check on him. We discovered that he has a means of livelihood like many others. It was not only him, but all those that have a means of livelihood have been released,” Adejobi said.
“There was no special treatment for him, as everybody was treated equally. There is no way police will embark on a raid and certain individuals will not be picked, either erroneously or for not presenting a means of identification as of the time they are arrested.
“In his own case, he could not provide an ID card according to those who arrested him. The DCP SCIID, Panti, personally did the screening for those that were raided yesterday and some of them that have means of livelihood and have gone through background check were released, while others would be charged to court,” he added.
