Kano Imposes N25,000 Fine for Public Littering, Urination, Defecation

The Kano State House of Assembly has imposed a fine of N25,000 on anyone caught littering, urinating, or defecating in public places.

This is contained in the Kano State Landscaping and Beautification Agency Bill 2025, aimed at promoting cleanliness and beauty in the state.

The passage of the bill was sequel to deliberations on the committee of the whole and third reading of the bill by the deputy clerk, Alhaji Nasiru Magaji during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

The agency established by the bill will be responsible for setting up gardens, planting flowers, and preventing indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The agency will be governed by a board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including professionals, who are knowledgeable in engineering and beautification.

The bill imposes a fine of N25,000 on anyone caught littering, urinating, or defecating in public places.

“The agency will also prevent the indiscriminate dumping of trash and spitting from moving vehicles, checkmate open defecation, and make the city look beautiful”.

He explained that the agency established by the bill would be responsible for setting up gardens, planting flowers, and preventing indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roundabouts, drainages, bridges, and roads.

The majority leader pointed out that: “the agency will be governed by a board comprising a Chairman and 10 members, including professionals, like architects, who are knowledgeable in engineering and beautification.”
