Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has reportedly honored another invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure.
Sources close to the anti-graft agency revealed that Bello arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team. Contrary to rumors, he was not joined by the current Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo.
This development comes in the wake of a Supreme Court judgment dismissing states’ challenges against the EFCC’s constitutional mandate, further reinforcing the agency’s authority in corruption cases.
Eyewitnesses reported that Bello drove himself to the EFCC office in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by his lawyers. Speculations about his visit to the commission had surfaced last week, but his media team declined to comment at the time.
During the last court session on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment to November 27, citing the ongoing 30-day period for Bello to comply with the summons. Meanwhile, the agency granted administrative bail to Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, and sought an extension of time for Bello’s appearance.
