Just In: We have offered consular assistance to Nnamdi Kanu – British Govt

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has said that the Commission has offered consular assistance to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Starnews Nigeria reports that Kanu was arrested in Kenya on June 27, 2021, and extradited to Nigeria on June 29, 2021.

Speaking on a programme on Arise TV, the UK High Commissioner stated that the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu who is a British citizen has received consular assistance from the British Government.

On inquiry, Laing said: “On Nnamdi Kanu, all I would say is that we are on record of saying that we can offer consular assistance to British nationals as requested. That is all I am prepared to say in this interview”

When asked to speak further, she added: “I haven’t said anything about his trial. What we have said on record is that we would do all we can and we do offer consular assistance and in this case we have offered consular assistance to Nnamdi Kanu,”.
