Ahead of the November governorship election in Ondo State, Labour Party leaders in the state have urged their national president, Julius Abure, to resist pressure from certain party officials seeking to introduce an alternative governorship candidate through unofficial means.
The party leaders voiced their concerns during a meeting in Akure, the state capital, expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of some leaders which they believe could jeopardize the party’s progress in the state.
Speaking on behalf of others after a meeting held in Akure the state capiy, the Labour Party Chairman in Akure south local government, Oladeji Olakunle said, “The majority of the 18 Local Government Executives Leaders who doubles as the Delegates in the last governorship Primary Election conducted on 26th April 2024 has adopted Otunba Charles Yemi Farimoyo as their choice of candidate for the forthcoming governorship Election in Ondo State.
“That the party leaders across the state reject any imposition of any kind. Therefore the delegates have met and agreed to Adopt Otunba Charles Yemi Farimiyo as our substantive Candidate chosen by the Local Government leaders who double as the delegates in the party primary to avoid any unnecessary litigation. We urge our National Chairman Barr.Julius Abure to considered our request.
“We want the National Chairman to call for an all inclusive stakeholders meeting including Local Government leaders in Ondo state especially those aggrieved members that participated in the party primary.
“The national leadership should not approve any request of having new party Congress where the local government executive will be removed, we will not accept that.”
He however appealed to the National Leaders to handle every Misunderstanding with caution especially as the governorship election draws near in the state.
Olakunle also called on members of the party to work with the party leadership from the state to the national body.
He said, “We are using this medium to inform the people of the state that the party is united as ever and waxing stronger to win the upcoming Gubernatorial Election in Ondo State with a land slide.”
Labour Party chairmen from other Senatorial Districts, Mayowa Tolorunju From the Northern senatorial district and Holo Kayode from the southern senatorial district appealed to the national leadership to honour the agreement made with them.
