JUST IN: Ondo LG Election: APC Wins 16 Out Of 18 Seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in 16 out of 18 local government chairmanship seats in the recently held elections in Ondo State.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) announced the results from its headquarters in Akure, Channels TV reports.

Elections in Ondo West Local Government Area were rescheduled, while results from Owo Local Government Area are still pending.

Twelve political parties participated in the elections, including the APC, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and Zenith Labour Party. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier withdrawn, citing concerns about the credibility of ODIEC.

This is the first local government election in Ondo State since August 2020, following a period of administrative management by civil servants after the previous officials’ tenure ended in August 2023.

After several delays, the election was finally conducted on January 18, 2025.
