JUST IN: Meranda Assumes Office As Lagos House Of Assembly Speaker Amid Tension

Mojisola Meranda began her term as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly on January 27, 2025, despite ongoing tensions within the assembly.

Meranda’s election came after the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, which occurred while he was in the United States.

The decision to remove Obasa was made by 32 out of the 40 lawmakers.

However, Obasa contested his removal, claiming he was still the legitimate Speaker.

As Meranda took office, security measures around the assembly were tightened, with staff and legislative aides required to show ID cards to enter the complex.

Any personnel without identification would be denied access.
