The former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has returned to the city after being deposed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday.
Bayero’s location had been unknown since his removal. The Kano State House of Assembly recently repealed a law from December 5, 2019, introduced by ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, which had divided the emirate into five parts and appointed separate Emirs.
Following the repeal, Governor Yusuf gave the affected Emirs 48 hours to leave their palaces and hand over their duties to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Yusuf then reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi, who was deposed by Ganduje in 2020, as the Emir of Kano. Sanusi received his reappointment letter on Friday and led Jumat prayers at the Government House in Kano.
On Saturday morning, Ado Bayero returned to Kano, greeted by a crowd of supporters, as seen in a video reported by Daily Trust.
On Friday, Governor Yusuf officially reappointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano, presenting him with the reinstatement letter at the Government House.
