The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
According to PUNCH, police spokesperson SP Shiisu Adam, in a statement from Dutse on Saturday, identified the suspects as 30-year-old Mallam Adamu Aliyu, 37-year-old Mallam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, and 80-year-old Mallam Nafiu Ibrahim. They were apprehended on February 8, 2025, in Illela town, Sokoto State.
According to investigations, the trio conspired to defraud 19-year-old Ahmad Abdullahi of N400,000. When the victim demanded a refund, they reportedly lured him to a river in Hadejia, strangled him, and dumped his body in the water before fleeing to Niger Republic. Authorities later tracked and arrested them, returning them to Jigawa State to face prosecution.
SP Adam assured that justice would be served, confirming that the case has been charged to court.
In a separate operation, the police arrested 18-year-old Ahmed Habibu for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N600,000. The suspect was caught on February 24, 2025, in possession of the stolen bike.
Additionally, 30-year-old Manniru Yusuf was taken into custody for allegedly attempting to commit homicide. He was reportedly found trying to shoot 50-year-old Ramma Sule with a locally made pistol.
Meanwhile, police in Bariki Quarters, Hadejia, recovered two locally made rifles, three live AK-47 rounds, N36,000 in cash, and a quantity of rice abandoned by suspected armed robbers who fled upon sighting a patrol team. Efforts are underway to track them down.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security efforts to maintain peace and safety in the state.
