The Delta State Government has ceased the payment of salaries to 120 health workers from the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, who have left the system and relocated abroad.
This was revealed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, during a meeting with leaders from the Ijomi and Edjemouyan communities in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
Onojaeme stated that an audit of the hospital’s workforce uncovered that salaries were still being paid to 120 former employees who had already exited.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts to reposition the hospital, mentioning that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had recently approved the purchase of a CT scan machine for DELSUTH during the last State Executive Council meeting.
In addition, the commissioner mentioned the settlement of a long-standing power bill of N100 million owed to the Benin Electricity Development Company, as well as plans to increase the hospital’s monthly subvention.
He praised the host communities for fostering a conducive environment for the hospital’s operations and reassured them of the Governor’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and delivering the dividends of democracy. He also called for continued support and cooperation from the communities.
Speaking on behalf of the host communities, Ward 12 Councilor Mr. Eki Benson affirmed that the communities would maintain a harmonious relationship with the hospital.
