Runke Ayilara, Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA, in Akwa Ibom State, has highlighted the extraordinary strength and courage required to be the wife of a police officer.
She emphasized that ongoing support from society is crucial for the families of police officers.
Ayilara, who is the spouse of the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom Command, made these remarks at the State Police Command Headquarters in Uyo, during the celebration of POWA’s 60th anniversary.
The event, themed ‘Strength of the Police,’ underscored how the wives of police officers significantly contribute to their husbands’ effectiveness by managing their households, allowing their partners to focus on their duties with greater bravery, agility, and resilience.
She emphasised, “It takes strengthen, courage and determination to remain a police officer’s wife. At home, we take on responsibilities our husbands should have helped us with if they were home, and so they can stay adaptive, agile and resilient at work. Police Officers’ Wives are the strength of the Force.”
She lauded the Nigeria Police Force, and POWA National Chairperson, Elizabeth Egbetokun, for allowing POWA members wear their husbands’ rags for the anniversary, saying the provilege makes them feel “gallant”.
Reflecting on POWA’s 60-year journey, Mrs. Ayilara noted that the association has established a skills acquisition center to train its members and their children.
She expressed gratitude to her husband, CP Waheed Ayilara, and the State Police Command for their support of the association.
In his remarks during the anniversary celebration, CP Ayilara praised the President of POWA, describing it as a “great honor” to have their wives appear in police uniforms for the event.
He urged POWA to continue its efforts, emphasizing the importance of sustaining the association to ensure ongoing benefits for its members. He also called for continued support and cooperation from the community for their husbands
