Israeli Airstrike Kills Hezbollah Commander, Five Others

Ibrahim Qubaisi, a Hezbollah commander in charge of its rocket division, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Tuesday, according to sources.

The attack claimed six lives and marked another setback for the Iran-backed group, which has experienced significant losses at the hands of Israel over the past week.

Concerns are mounting that ongoing pressure on Hezbollah could escalate nearly a year of conflict into a broader war, particularly as fighting continues between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah’s ally, in Gaza, Alarabiya News reports.

Israel targeted the Hezbollah-controlled area of the Lebanese capital for a second consecutive day, continuing a new wave of airstrikes on various locations in Lebanon.

With almost 12 months of conflict against Hamas in Gaza, Israel appears to be refocusing its military efforts to the northern front, where Hezbollah has been firing rockets into Israel in support of Hamas, also backed by Iran.

The health ministry reported an initial toll of six dead and 15 wounded in the Beirut strike. Previous airstrikes on Monday had resulted in over 500 fatalities, according to Lebanese authorities.

The latest airstrike struck a building in the busy Ghobeiry neighborhood, with one security source sharing a photo showing damage to the top floor of a five-story building.

Israel’s military chief, Herzi Halevi, stated earlier that assaults on Hezbollah would be intensified, asserting, “The situation requires continued, intense action in all arenas.”

Lebanese officials reported that the airstrikes on Monday resulted in 558 deaths, including 50 children and 94 women, with a further 1,835 individuals injured and tens of thousands forced to flee for safety.
