Iran’s Ambassador ‘Loses Eye’ As Pager Explodes During Suspected Israeli Strike

Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, suffered severe injuries, including the loss of an eye, when a pager exploded in his face during a deadly attack in Lebanon.

The incident occurred when hand-held radios and pagers used by Hezbollah militants detonated across southern Lebanon, resulting in one of the country’s deadliest days since cross-border clashes with Israel began nearly a year ago.

The attacks, which happened on two consecutive days, killed at least 14 people and wounded hundreds, including mourners at a funeral. Witnesses reported widespread panic, with ambulances rushing to emergency rooms and people screaming in pain.

The explosions targeted Hezbollah communication devices, sparking fears of further escalation in the region.

Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, which has been accused of being behind the attacks. The incident has heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with concerns about a potential regional war.

The United Nations has condemned the attacks, citing concerns about civilian casualties and the violation of international human rights law.

Mail Online reports that the second wave of carnage came a day after thousands of exploding pagers used by the group left almost 3,000 people injured and a dozen dead, including civilians and children.

Iranian ambassador Mojtaba Amani lost one of his eyes and seriously injured the other when his pager exploded in the attack, according to The New York Times.

A video circulating on social media shows Iranian ambassador Mojtaba Amani with bloodstained clothes after the Lebanon attack.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps plans to transport him to Tehran for medical treatment. Israeli officials remain silent, but security sources point to Mossad’s involvement.

A Hezbollah official calls this the group’s largest security breach ever. The incident, amidst Israel’s ongoing Gaza conflict, sparks fears of escalating tensions on the Lebanon border and potential regional war.

“We are opening a new phase in the war. It requires courage, determination and perseverance from us,” Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said in remarks at an air force base.
