The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Ilupeju/Gbagada & District Society, has held her investiture Ceremony and formal inauguration of its Excos members.

The ceremony was done on Saturday August 10, 2024, in Ikeja, Lagos.

Starnews NG reports that Dr. Samuel Taiwo Abey, FCA, was earlier elected as the 4th Chairman of ICAN Ilupeju/Gbagada & District Society, Lagos, according to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the ICAN district, Dr Titilayo Eni-Itan Fowokan, FCA.

Other Excos include; Haruna Nma Yahaya, Vice Chairman; Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, 1st Deputy Vice Chairman, Etofolam F. Osuji, 2nd Deputy Vice President; and Oluseyi Oladimeji Olanrewaju, Honorary Treasurer.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman said, “For me, history is made today as it marks the fulfilment of one of my dreams in life becoming one of the renown flagbearers of the Accountancy Profession in Nigeria and beyond as pioneered and represented by our great Institute, ICAN.

“It is such an honour to be elected as the 4th Chairman of the Model District of our esteemed Institute, having previously served in various capacities since the formative era of the district. It is truly humbling to be chosen to lead such a progressive, diverse, and inspiring group of individuals for the next 365 days. This election serves as a testament to the collective passion and dedication we all share towards the goals and ideals that unite us. You have individually and collectively mentored, inspired, encouraged and spurred me on; and from the depth of my heart, I say thank you most sincerely.

“I would also like to specially acknowledge the efforts of my predecessors, who have paved the way for me and set remarkable standards for us at the district. I sincerely appreciate their tireless efforts and achievements over the years and most especially in the just concluded year. Their legacy serves as a constant reminder of the responsibility we hold as representatives and ambassadors of this district and gave a foundation for us to build upon, and I am committed to continuing their excellent work.

“Dear Professional Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen, beneath the euphoria of today’s event, lies a great responsibility on myself and my new team of executive members to direct the affairs of the district for the next twelve months. The essence is a call to service, a call to face and conquer the diverse challenges facing our members through purposeful and impactful leadership for the next one year. As your Chairman, I recognize the challenges that lie ahead. We face an ever-changing landscape, with new obstacles and opportunities on the horizon.

“However, with your continued support, unwavering dedication, and collective wisdom, I am confident that together we can overcome any hurdle and achieve greater things for our district society.”

He continued, “It is therefore with humility, a profound sense of responsibility, and a determination to continue to serve selflessly that I, Chief Dr. Samuel Taiwo Abey, FCA, graciously accept my election as the 4th Chairman and flagbearer of the Model District, Ilupeju/Gbagada & District Society of ICAN for the 2024/2025 Chairmanship Year. My standing here today is only made possibly by the Special Grace of God who has deemed it fit to grant me such a highly revered platform. In assuming this role, I recognize the weight of the expectations placed upon me. Rest assured, I am fully committed to upholding the values that our district holds dearly: Inclusivity, Integrity, and Excellence. Together, we will work tirelessly towards further strengthening our district’s mantra, fostering an environment that nurtures personal growth and collective achievements.

“To our incredible members, whose unwavering dedication has been the backbone of our District Society, I extend my deepest gratitude. It is your valuable contributions that have propelled us forward and allowed us to reach new heights. I am here to serve you, to listen to your ideas, and to collaborate with you in order to fulfill our shared vision.”

Rolling out his agenda for the association, he highlighted that “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” These words of Helen Keller resonate deeply with our vision for IGDS. Today, I want to share with you our agenda for the year, which is centered around ‘Building an inclusive IGDS-ICAN Community’. To drive home these points, we have summarized the strategic intents of this administration using the acronym GROW as we desire to continue to GROW in every sphere of our existence as a Model District. G-OVERNANCE, R-EFORMS, O-PPORTUNITY, W-ISDOM.

He, however, pledged “to serve with utmost commitment, transparency, and fairness. Together, let us embrace the future with open hearts and open minds, as we work towards a society that thrives on collaboration and celebrates the diverse talents and achievements. of all its members.”
