Influential Politicians, VIPs Joining SDP – Chairman

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has revealed that influential politicians, including senators and ministers, are leaving their parties to join the SDP from different parts of Nigeria.

This development, he said, is part of the growing momentum as the party aims to take power from President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general election.

The announcement came on Monday, March 24, 2025, during a political discussion on Channels Television, where Gabam spoke about the SDP’s mission and the wave of political figures who have recently aligned themselves with the party.

Among them is former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the SDP.

Gabam explained that dissatisfaction with the APC-led government is driving the defections.

He noted that many people feel that the current administration is not responding to public concerns, which could affect the APC’s chances of retaining power in 2027.

According to him, the SDP is steadily growing stronger, welcoming defectors daily, some of whom previously held top positions as senators and ministers.

He expressed optimism about the future, stating that no party is guaranteed victory just by relying on individual political strategies.

He said Nigeria has many untapped talents capable of providing strong leadership and that no one leader holds a monopoly on effective governance.
