The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is meeting to discuss a petition calling for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly.
The meeting is taking place at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, with Esther Chibuikem, the Acting Director of Publicity, confirming this.
The petition was received by the commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, earlier this week. This comes after a decision by the Federal High Court in Lokoja on Friday, which lifted a previous order that had stopped INEC from proceeding with the recall process.
The court ruled that the recall effort is legally valid and falls within the rights of the Kogi Central constituents.
In its ruling, the court encouraged the constituents to continue their actions peacefully and within the law, following an earlier injunction that had temporarily blocked the petition.
