Ikale, Ilaje, Apoi’s Indigenes cause side attractions as diaspora celebrate Yoruba Day in Canada

The indigenes of Ikale, Ilaje and Apoi from Ondo South Senatorial District of Ondo State in Nigeria, on Saturday, caused side attractions, as Nigerians of the Yoruba extraction celebrated Yoruba Day in Toronto, the Capital City of Ontario, Canada.

Held at G. Ross Lord Park at North York in Toronto, the event, which was organized by Yoruba Community Association Toronto, had in attendance Nigerians from various Yoruba ethnic groups living in Canada.

Stealing the show on Saturday, the Ikale, Ilaje and Apoi indigenes led by its President, Olujimi Adekanle, popularly known as JAF, flaunted their native white attire with a uniform cap by the men while the women put on a uniform traditional attire with headgear blended with traditional beads and necklaces of different designs that match.

The event culminates in a get together party that unites the Sons and Daughters of the Yoruba race who hail from different states in Nigeria to exchange useful information and collaborate on the development of their father’s land.

At the Ikale, Ilaje and Apoi’s tent, the atmosphere was charged with Ikale traditional popular music known as Biripo. The celebration was greeted with Iocal food and drinks.

Starnews NG reports that Yoruba people represent the second-largest ethnic community of Nigerians in Canada according to Wikipedia.

According to the 2016 Canadian census by Statistics Canada, 16,210 respondents spoke Yoruba in the country.
