IGP responds to viral video of Police, Civil Defence Officers clash in Osun

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has responded to a widely circulated video showing a public altercation between members of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State.

Expressing disappointment over the incident, Egbetokun described the conduct of the police officers involved as “unprofessional” and has ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the confrontation.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing Zone 11 in Osogbo has been tasked with leading the inquiry.

Egbetokun also noted the importance of unity and cooperation among security agencies, urging officers to foster “esprit de corps” and collaborate to maintain public safety.

In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP reassured Nigerians of the police force’s commitment to a secure environment, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force, under my leadership, remains dedicated to working alongside sister security agencies to ensure safety and security for all.”

In an earlier statement dated October 15, 2023, the IGP underscored the value of camaraderie, stating, “The spirit of teamwork and shared purpose must guide our conduct. It is essential for effective service delivery that we respect our colleagues across all security agencies within the law’s bounds.”
