The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated a project tracking program for constituency projects worth N21 billion in Kaduna State, aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in government-funded initiatives.
Haruna Aminu, Chief Superintendent at the ICPC, representing the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department, revealed that the commission is currently monitoring 60 projects across the state.
The tracking process began in the Kafanchan region, where 21 projects were assessed, and is now moving through Kaduna’s central areas, with a particular focus on solar-powered streetlight projects.
Aminu reported some progress in the solar energy projects but noted challenges with project implementation. He emphasized that the commission would hold contractors accountable and ensure no funds are disbursed without the successful completion of projects.
He also declared that the era of abandoned projects has come to an end, thanks to the necessary directives and support the ICPC has received to enforce contractor accountability.
Aminu added that delays in the completion of the solar streetlight projects have hindered their potential benefits for local communities, but if completed on schedule, they could have made a significant positive impact.
Looking ahead, Aminu stated that the ICPC would continue its efforts to ensure contractors meet their obligations and that the public fully benefits from these projects, in line with the democratic process.
