By: Bayero Ade

A Magistrate Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has ordered the remand of Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife; popular broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat; and the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, in connection with the recent stampede that claimed over 35 children’s lives.

The tragic incident occurred during a children’s funfair held last week, organized by the Ooni’s ex-wife in collaboration with Hamzat. The event took a devastating turn when a stampede broke out, leading to multiple fatalities.

During their court appearance on Tuesday, the defendants were arraigned on four counts, including conspiracy and murder. All three pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Bisi Ogunkanmi, adjourned the case to January 13, 2025, while the defendants remain in custody.
