Dr. Eddy Olafeso, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Director-General of the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Council, has pledged to personally spearhead a protest at the Alagbaka Government House in Akure if Agboola Ajayi does not fulfill his electoral promises within two years of taking over Ondo State as the Governor .

Olafeso accused the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Ondo state of rampant corruption, claiming that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has shown no significant achievements during his ten months in office.

The former PDP Vice Chairman for the South West also emphasised that an Ajayi-led government would prioritize the needs of the people if elected in the upcoming governorship election on November 16, this year.

Starnews NG reports that he made these comments during his appearance on the radio program ‘Ondo Decides’ on Fresh FM, in Akure, Ondo State capital.

Olafeso further asserted that the PDP is the only party capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.

“What the PDP stood for in the past is the only way Nigeria can go through its myriad of problems. The party came into existence with the need to unite the country and explore the possibilities of its vast resources and the multifarious opportunities available to our people,” Olafeso said.

Speaking on what Agboola Ajayi stands for in the struggle for the number one seat in the state, Olafeso affirmed that it is a movement aimed at building a promising future for the people.

He described the administration of Aiyedatiwa as non-performing, urging residents of Ondo State to vote him out in the coming elections.

His words: “I want the people of Ondo State to join the opposition party, the PDP, against the lacklustre, non-performing government of the APC that has taken eight years out of our lives and rendered us completely hopeless. The people should decide by voting out the APC in Saturday’s election.”

On the party’s preparedness for the coming election, Olafeso said that the PDP has the backing of the national and zonal bodies and has done excellently well in touring all the local governments in the state.

He also alleged that the APC had hired thugs from neighbouring states to disrupt the elections in some parts of the state.

“APC is preparing to bring thugs to Ondo State to fight the opposition. I have security information that the party is importing thugs from Ekiti, Kogi, and Edo, and we are waiting for them,” he said.

He maintained that the Commissioner of Police is aware of the plot, adding that the security operatives have assured maximum security during the elections, thereby dispelling any fear or threat of intimidation.

Olafeso accused the Aiyedatiwa-led government of squandering over N130 billion received during his administration within the last 10 months. He noted that the state had not distributed the palliatives received from the federal government to the vulnerable people; rather, they are repackaging them for the coming election.

“What has the government done with the N130 billion received in the past ten to eleven months? This administration has rendered the people hopeless. The reality is that they have weaponized poverty. They are re-bagging the palliatives received from the federal government, putting their pictures on them to be shared with the people on election day. Why on earth will they wait until election day to share rice and garri worth 10,000 naira with the people?” he questioned.

On the contrary, Olafeso stated that the PDP, as a party, is well-loved and has received massive support since it started its campaign a few months ago.

Speaking further, the PDP chieftain reiterated Agboola Ajayi’s resolve to provide free education at both primary and secondary schools, saying that free education will commence immediately Ajayi is sworn in, and he also promised that massive road infrastructure will commence within the first six months in office.

On inducements during elections, Olafeso urged the voters to collect money if offered by APC and then vote them out of power. He implored Ondo residents to vote their conscience and take correct electoral decisions.

His words: “The people should collect whatever they are given during the election by APC and still vote them out. The greatest lesson you will teach somebody in power who is corrupt and not doing what is expected of him is to take what belongs to you and do the right thing.

“They can’t force you to vote for them after you have taken whatever they wanted to give you that they should have given to you in the first instance. Nobody can say don’t take whatever they want to offer; but the truth is that you should vote your conscience by taking correct electoral decisions.”

Responding to a caller’s question on whether the people would be allowed to protest if the PDP refused to make an impact after two years in office, Olafeso promised to lead the protest and said he would stand solidly behind the people.

“I personally will lead a protest if Agboola Ajayi refuses to make an impact after two years in office, and I can assure you that no one will be intimidated. This shows the much faith I have in him. Be rest assured that Agboola Ajayi will deliver on his campaign promises, and everyone will be happy,” Olafeso vouched.
