I inherited N359 billion salary arrears —Benue Governor laments

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, during a tour of Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency, disclosed that his administration inherited salary arrears exceeding N359 billion from his predecessor, Governor Ortom.

Addressing residents in Okpoga, Governor Alia criticized past administrations for using federal funding challenges as an excuse for delayed salary payments and pledged to ensure civil servants receive their salaries by the 22nd of each month under his leadership.

Governor Alia also committed to revitalizing the Igumale Cement Factory, improving access roads, and enhancing electricity supply by providing 5,000 kW to Okpoga.

He urged continued support from the community and advocated patience with President Bola Tinubu, highlighting anticipated benefits from Tinubu’s policies for Nigerians.

Former APC senatorial candidate, Daniel Onjeh, urged Governor Alia to deliver on his campaign promises amidst criticisms from opposition parties regarding infrastructure and appointments.

Also, Benjamin Omakolon, acting chairman of the APC, welcomed 500 defectors to the party, assuring them of fair treatment.
