Mercy Benjamin, a blogger and Web Developer based in Lagos, has taken to her Facebook page to open up about her childhood experiences as a member of the Deeper Life Church.

In the post, she expressed both admiration and disappointment directed at Pastor Williams Folorunso Kumuyi, the founder of the church.

She accused Pastor Kumuyi of influencing her father to embrace poverty and miss out on opportunities due to what she described as “deluded preachings.”

Mercy expressed disappointment in the pastor’s alleged state of delusion and criticized the church’s strict rules, including the prohibition of lace material clothes.

In the statement, she said,

“In the name of God, Hell, and Sin, people justify their wicked acts.” Mercy went on to express a belief that Pastor Kumuyi and his followers are destined for hell,

“It gives me peace knowing fully well, you and your multitudes are all going to the hell created for you all. I don’t like you.”

Mercy also recounted a childhood incident where her father insisted on tailor-made “gathers gowns” for her and her siblings, adhering to the church’s strict dress code.

She described the gowns as hideous and shared the impact of the church’s teachings on her appearance, stating,

“For a large part of my life, I was ugly. Deeper life hate good things! Anything good is a sin.
One of the annoying part of it all was, all the workers in that church were all trying to use the exact voice of their Pastor Kumuyi, they are all using his same intonation till date. (only thinking about it, is very embarrasing”.
