The grandmother and guardian of three of the abducted pupils of Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State, might have committed suicide, if the children had not been freed.
Recall that five pupils, three teachers, and a driver abducted on their way from school were freed by their captors recently. Narrating her ordeal after their release, Dorcas Ojo, an octogenarian, said she had already bought rat poison, planning to ingest it and die, if her grand kids were not brought back.
She spoke at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), after the pupils had undergone treatment and were discharged to reunite with their families at Eporo-Ekiti.
Ojo said: “The abductors made the children undergo what their parents never experienced. The pupils were traumatised by the kidnappers. They were forced to trek long distances in the bush.
“They were not allowed to stay in one location and were not given food during the seven days of their captivity. They were saved by God, through prayers by the people of Emure and Eporo communities.”
Meanwhile, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Oyebanji Filani, expressed satisfaction with the recovery of the students and their teachers.
“As a government, having had the children released and having had them properly treated by various teams, here, in the Teaching Hospital, we will be returning them to their communities,” he added.
