Yusuf Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, has urged Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to consider joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) to help secure the party’s anticipated victory in Rivers State in the 2027 elections.
In a statement marking Wike’s 57th birthday, Ata praised Wike’s political acumen and leadership, particularly his achievements since taking office as FCT Minister in August 2023. Ata highlighted that Wike’s wealth of experience would be valuable in advancing APC’s cause in Rivers State.
Ata also commended Wike for his efforts in revitalizing Abuja, addressing real estate challenges, and enhancing the efficiency of the civil service.
“Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata expressed profound admiration for the outstanding leadership, unwavering determination, and exceptional ‘can-do’ attitude exhibited by Barr. Wike since becoming FCT Minister in August 2023,” the statement read. “These qualities, which have defined his illustrious political career, have revitalized Abuja, restoring its status as a world-class capital city.”
Ata praised Wike’s proactive approach to tackling the FCT’s issues, drawing parallels to his successful tenure as Rivers State Governor. He noted that roads and bridges long neglected were rapidly completed, and Wike’s efforts to reclaim the Abuja master plan have brought order and purpose to the city.
“A particular highlight of Barr. Wike’s leadership is his bold action in confronting land grabbers and speculators in the FCT’s real estate sector,” Ata added. “He has restored discipline and accountability, transforming the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) into an efficient and high-performing agency.”
Ata also applauded Wike for creating the FCT Civil Service Commission, a move that has enhanced career progression for FCDA staff and elevated the civil service as a path to excellence.
With these accomplishments, Ata suggested that Wike’s expertise could help propel APC’s success in Rivers State, urging him to consider aligning with the party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
