Housewife seeks divorce after 24 years of ‘loveless’ marriage

Khadijat Mustapha, a housewife, has filed for the dissolution of her marriage to Mahmuda Adamu at the Kubwa Upper Area Court in Abuja, citing a lack of love and affection after 24 years together.

Mustapha informed the court that they married in accordance with Islamic laws in 2000 and have been blessed with five children.

She recounted instances where her husband accused her of adultery, threatened her life, and subjected her to physical violence over minor disagreements.

“My husband does not pray as a Muslim should, and there is no more love between us; I want the court to dissolve the marriage,” she said.

The respondent however said he was still in love with his wife and needed time to settle with her.

The judge, Mohammed Wakili, adjourned the matter until May 6 for the couple to settle their differences and report to the court.
