Gunmen kill man, burn Imo waste vehicle

Just 24 hours after the fatal attack on four policemen and a Point of Sale operator in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area, another violent incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Orji, Owerri North LGA, where a young man was shot dead.

According to The PUNCH, the attackers fired shots into the air and then proceeded towards Owerri-Enugu Road, where they set fire to an Imo State Government Waste Management Agency vehicle at the Nkwo Orji Market.

An eyewitness, who requested to remain anonymous due to media restrictions, reported that the gunmen shouted, “Stay in your homes,” and warned, “Don’t come out during the sit-at-home if you value your lives.”

The market was thrown into chaos as traders and shoppers fled, leaving behind their goods and vehicles in their rush to escape.

Commuters faced significant disruptions, with minimal bus services operating in the area due to fears of being targeted.

Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye assured, “We have deployed a large number of police operatives to Orji.

The situation is under control, and we are committed to bringing the perpetrators of these attacks to justice.”
